This time we’re going to be diving into the real estate sector of the S&P 500! This sector consist of companies operating in real estate management and development, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and estate management companies. Real estate is actually the second smallest sector in the index at 2.7%. It’s a small piece of the pie with a few stocks that used to be in the financial sector.

Companies in this sector include American Tower Corp., Boston Properties, and Equinox. Through the first quarter of 2020, the real estate sector declined 2.77% over the previous 10 years.1 However, it’s experienced a rally recently as it “outperformed among major S&P sectors.”2  Weyerhaeuser is one of the specific real estate companies experiencing success right now.
